THE stalled West White Rose project off eastern Canada has been granted C$41.5 million (US$32.2 million) of government assistance to maintain local jobs and protect the option of work re-starting on the development in 2022 - if justified by market conditions. Canadian independent Husky Energy - recently acquired by compatriot independent Cenovus Energy - stopped work on the oil project in Newfoundland & Labrador a few months ago, citing poor project economics, a decision that stunned a province whose economy relies heavily on the offshore sector for revenues and employment.
