COMPANIES operating off the busy ports along Mexico's Bay of Campe-che, including oil and gas players, are contending with an increase in piracy attacks staged from small, fast-running vessels. In one recent incident, the offshore supply vessel Natalie was boarded from small boats under cover of darkness near the Borr Drilling-owned jack-up Odin, off the coast of Coatzacoalcos, in the state of Veracruz. Maritime intelligence company Dryad Global reported the incident as a violent armed boarding and robbery of personal belongings, although sophisticated communication and navigation equipment was also taken, along with other equipment. "Within 2020 there has been a significant increase in maritime crime and piracy in the waters offshore the Campeche, Tabasco and Veracruz states," Dryad notes.
