THE Australian government is carrying out a review into the events that led up to the collapse of independent Northern Oil & Gas Australia (Noga) - and saw a floater stranded off the coast of northern Australia - to ensure a similar event never happens again. The federal government's Minister for Resources, Water & Northern Australia, Keith Pitt, confirmed the appointment of Steve Walker, an industry veteran with nearly 40 years of offshore regulation and industry experience, to carry out a review into the circumstances that led to the Northern Endeavour floating production, storage and offloading vessel being left off Australia without an owner. "The review will consider how and why this situation arose, consider the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders, and provide advice to the government on possible areas for reform of the offshore oil and gas regulatory regime," Pitt said.
