Geoscience hacking the hackathons

IT IS an increasingly familiar sight these days just before major geoscience events - a meeting room full of proudly self-described "nerdy" types, for the most part, huddled around whiteboards and computers, engaged in project discussion that becomes more intense as their deadline approaches, writes Andrew McBarnet. This is the "hackathon" phenomenon that began edging its way into the subsurface geoscience community five years ago.
