A Study To Reduce Reactor Trip Frequency In Westinghouse-type Nuclear Power Plants

摘要

In Korea, Westinghouse (WH)-type nuclear power plants(NPP) have experienced more frequent reactor trip than Korean Optimized Power Reactors (OPR1000). The total number of reactor trip occurrence between January of 2000 and April of 2005 was 24 in 6 WH-type NPPs while 18 in 7 OPR1000 NPPs. The major causes resulting in reactor trip in WH-type NPPs were turbine trip and load rejection. However, load rejection capability is incorporated in OPR1000 to prevent reactor trip via appropriate design features such as NSSS control systems, steam bypass control system, and reactor power cutback system (RPCS).
