Edinburgh launches real-time passenger information and fleet management system

The launch of BusTracker, Edinburgh's real-time passenger information and fleet management system, in November 2004 was the culmination of a three-year planning, procurement and installation process. The core system platform, a communications network and an agreed system administration and maintenance structure have been established which will provide a basis for future expansion. The system includes 250 vehicles operated by Lothian Buses, 91 LCD signs on street and 65 bus priority installations. Given that the Quality Bus Corridor chosen for Phase 1 runs through a World Heritage Site and adjacent Conservation Areas, great care had to be taken over the signing strategy.
