The economic global turmoil in recent weeks continues to place unrelenting pressure on families whose budgets are seeking relief from any source. Banking collapses, ever-increasing fuel, heating, household and food prices have all taken their toll whilst house and vehicle resale prices have fallen dramatically. In turn these factors are influencing competing budgetary demands especially where fuel demand and its supply is at stake. The Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has recorded the lowest car sale statistics since 1966. The best selling models are smaller, more economic vehicles whose reduced CO_2 emissions advantageously affect Vehicle Excise Duty tariffs. Fuel economy remains top of travellers' agenda and there has been considerable interest in hybrid vehicles and high mpg models.
