How traffic management grew up: London's contribution to ATCrnYour article (Ref 1) contained a fascinating reminder of the painstaking development of Area Traffic Control's (ATC, later UTC) use of central computers for traffic signal control. This letter adds the leading contribution made in the early days of the Greater London Council.rnSimultaneously with the Road Research Laboratory's Glasgow ATC trial in 1967, the government installed a similar sized computer controlled system in West London. It was duly assessed (Ref 2), found to reduce journey times, and led to promote further government ATC development.
