The ITS (UK) Local Authority / Urban Interest Group held its eighth annual conference in London during June. At this event free attendance is offered to all Local Authority Councillors and Officers, making it an annual opportunity for those new to the concepts of intelligent transport systems to come along and learn from experienced practitioners. The theme of the conference was the provision of a response by ITS practitioners to the Government's DaSTS strategy agenda. Topics covered were: coping with reduced capital and revenue budgets, managing and exploiting existing infrastructure, LTP3 - Visions and Issues, anticipated impacts of the ITS Action Plan/Directive, ITS for better management and value for money, carbon management, quality of life, safety, security and health, and ITS to support economic growth /recovery. The conference was chaired jointly by Steve George, the Chairman of the Local Authority/Urban Interest Group, and Dave Stoner of Envitia, who is the Hon. Secretary of the Group. Local Authority ITS implementations were explained and presented from Medway, the West Midlands, and Reading among other locations.
