In this paper the author examines some inconsistencies which he has identified in the design of mini-roundabouts (TD54) compared to other technical directives in the Design Manual forrnRoads & Bridges which he believes require clarification. These inconsistencies affect the potential to safely apply relaxations and/or departures from standard and as a result thernauthor encourages a formal review of the standards with a view to ensuring that designers are afforded appropriate flexibility to exploit the potential safety improvements achievable with mini-roundabouts.
