Gordon Wakeford, MD of Siemens Mobility, left, and Martin Wylie, Southampton's Traffic Signal Engineer, plant one of three trees provided by Siemens as part of the carbon offset programme included in the new traffic signals maintenance contract awarded to the company by Southampton City Council. The city has secured funding from the Carbon Trust via the fund administrator, Salix, and is currently deploying low energy LED traffic signals across the city with an estimated reduction in carbon emissions in excess of 400t per annum. Martin Wylie said that the City was working with Siemens on a number of initiatives to reduce carbon emissions associated with intelligent transport systems. He added that the LED Helios retrofit from Siemens was a perfect solution delivering the same energy savings as ELV.
