Understanding the dark art of traffic forecasting

It is no secret that traffic forecasting remains something of a dark art. Those involved in the process of modelling and forecasting demand are only too aware of the limitations of this discipline, but when it comes to the consumers of these forecasts there is often very little understanding. That, anyway, is the view of Robert Bain who has written a book, Toll Road Traffic & Revenue Forecasts; An Interpreter's Guide, which sets out to, as he puts it, lift the lid of the 'black box' of traffic and revenue forecasting.
