Electric vehicles: numbers low but ground work continues

By 2030, the UK vehicle fleet could include over 20 million EVs, making up over 27 per cent of the total, according to a 2011 Insight Report on the Implications of the widespread use of electric vehicles, produced by UK transport consultancy TRL. By the same date, the combined percentage of fully electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles could be as high as 55 per cent - making non-internal combustion (ICE)-based operation the dominant fuel mode for passenger and light vehicle transport.
