Guidelines for Micro Simulation Modelling, Calibration and Validation; An Examination of Gaps, Issues and Needs

This paper reports on work performed within the MULTITUDE project, which has a remit to examine methods and tools to support the use, calibration, and validation, of traffic simulation models. Working Group 4 of the project, has focussed on the use of, and need for guidelines in simulation modelling and has sought to examine if more/better guidelines are needed, and if so, on what issues, and containing what advice. As part of this process the project has reviewed existing documents and, through the use of a questionnaire and stakeholder meetings, isolated what advice is available, how well it is known, and the need (in practitioner opinion) for it to be supplemented. Subsequently, the project has produced detailed advice on a number of these issues that may be used in the production of revisions to existing documents.
