The case for a Clean-Air bill

Every year, an estimated 40,000-50,000 Britons die prematurely because of the inhalation of toxic gases like nitrogen dioxide. To put this figure into context, 1,732 people died on British roads last year - a figure more than 20 times smaller. The Environment Select Committee, which I chair, published a report on air quality in April this year. It called current air pollution a 'public health emergency' and proposed a range of measures to clean up British air, writes Neil Parish MP.
