Q You read politics at Durham which I guess is a good grounding for a job in the Civil Service, but how did a lifetime in transport come about? By accident or design? I joined the civil service at a time when you were invited to state a departmental preference on your application form. Then, as far as I can tell, where you got sent was completely random.
