The days of expensive, physically intrusive, maintenance-intensive 'dumb' detection to merely open or close a relay to make a signal switch on or off are drawing to a close. Society's requirement to speed us all from door to desk, or depot to delivery, demands dynamic, prioritised, multi-modal transport: begin on foot, take the train and complete your commute by hire car or Boris bike, for example. And to deliver this paradigm, simple detection is not enough.
