Children are. spending greater amounts of time indoors, using a range of devices to play games and build friendships with each other. Meanwhile, many parents have less time or fewer resources to take children to explore outdoor environments, and many have become increasingly worried about the risks involved in letting children roam away from home on their own. Over a single generation, children's 'home range' - the area around their home where they are allowed to roam unsupervised - has declined by almost 90%. At the same time it has become clearer that a child's physical and mental health can be significantly improved through access to nature and use of open green space.
