At the launch in the House of Commons of the TCPA's new publication New Towns Act 2015? - a review of the legislation to identify possible improvements - Labour's Shadow Communities and Local Government Minister covering planning policy and procurement, Roberta Blackman-Woods, was asked if she could envisage using the Act to create more New Towns or Garden Cities. She was reminded of the success of the 32 New Towns started in the UK from 1948 onwards, which now house over 2 million people, with the development costs (plus interest and great profit) all returned to the Treasury.
