摘要

Tiger-human conflicts in Sundarban Reserve Forest (SRF) are a very common scenario and have become a regular phenomenon over the past decades and one of the major problems for its conservation. Every year a significant number of tigers and many human lives are lost from the forest. Scientific studies on tiger-human conflicts in SRF are urgently needed. In the Sundarban Tiger Reserve of West Bengal, India, net fencing is put up at the periphery of the forest that is very close to the villages. It's a simple barrier that the tiger could easily tear down, but the psychological effect produces a mental deterrent to the tiger and it is found that most tigers walk very close to net but do not tear it. The fencing idea was implemented by the Forest Protection Committee (FPC) and Eco-Development Committee (EDC) with the participation of the local panchayat, local leaders and local people at the villages. The committees actively participate in forest conservation.
