Flagrant Foul: China's Predatory Liberalism and the NBA

On October 4, 2019, the general manager of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Houston Rockets, Daryl Morey, tweeted a graphic with the words "Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong" and unleashed a firestorm from China that few could have imagined. The tweet referenced protests in Hong Kong that started in June 2019 against proposals to permit extradition to mainland China. Two million people (out of Hong Kong's population of 7.4 million)1 protested at one of the larger protests that month, and they have protested every weekend since then against a perceived Chinese threat to Hong Kong's judicial independence.
