The 2-day seminar illustrated the design of reinforced concrete structures, mainly buildings, taking into consideration the seismic forces. Around 100 delegates attended from all over India. Lessons from earthquake failures, the provisions of IS:1893, a step-by-step design of a reinforced concrete building, and shear wall-frame building were covered by Professor A. R. Santhakumar, Emeritus Professor, Indian Institute of Technology. Earthquake ground motion, the response of multi-storeyed buildings, design approaches and seismic isolation were described by Dr Barry Davidson, Senior Lecturer, University of Auckland. They both addressed capacity design and the comparison of codes in India and New Zealand.
