Opportunities in the oil industry

With the construction industry in the doldrums at the moment, there are plenty of opportunities for structural engineers in the oil industry. They are desperate for mature experienced engineers who can take on a variety of tasks related to the booming industry of floating production platforms which are required for deep water wells. These can cost up to around US$1.5bn each, and there are hundreds being planned and constructed at the moment. The structural and engineering challenges are immense, and a good understanding of dynamic loading, metal fatigue and corrosion would be an advantage.
