Figures now available from the Department of Communities and Local Government website show that the number of newly built homes fell last year to under 120 000, which is half the level needed to keep up with increasing national demand. The figures show that new build available housing in Britain fell by 6% in the year to April to 117 700. This was supplemented by 5050 additional homes resulting from conversions,11 540 homes from a building change of use and 1800 other gains.
