Welcoming the gathering to The Institution Awards Luncheon 2011 at the Glaziers Hall, London, President Rogar Plank bade a particular welcome to 'younger engineers' who were in attendence. He said, 'We are here to celebrate achievement, to record our thanks for the personal contributions made to the Institution, and to recognise excellence in papers that were either presented at meetings or published in the The Structural Engineer, together with awards for young and aspiring engineers: Kenneth Severn Award; Young Structural Engineer of the Year Award; Pai Lin Li Travel Award and the Model and Full Scale Testing Award'. Angus Cormie, Chairman of the Papers Awards Judging Panel, said that it had not been an easy task to read and rank the diverse selection of papers for the awards, especially as some contributions are worthy of consideration in multiple categories. Netherless, agreement amongst the panel always seems to be reached!
