The Mid-Hants Railway

Southern England is blessed with some of the nation's largest and finest heritage railways - the Bluebell, Swanage, Kent & East Sussex, Isle of Wight and Mid-Hants are all doing a splendid job in keeping alive the spirit of the Southern Railway and its constituents. The latter is known as the 'Watercress Line' and the hilly country it runs through in its central section has led to the phrase 'Over the Alps' to describe the ten-mile journey between the main line junction at Alton and the Hampshire market town of Alresford.
