Start made on new Metrolink lines

The end of an era as heavy-rail trains through Oldham ceased on October 3 was marked by special trains prior to conversion to the Metrolink network (see page 20). Immediately afterwards, work started on the conversion, with the first section from the city centre to Central Park due to open in Spring 2011, followed by Oldham Mumps in the autumn and the full line to Rochdale in Spring 2012.
