The world's fastest steam locomotive is to return to the town that launched its greatest triumph - Grantham. A4 No. 4468 Mallard will be the star of a two-day rail festival in the station's up yard to mark the 75th anniversary of its record-breaking 126mph on Stoke bank, south of the town. It will be the first time in half a century that the Pacific has appeared in Grantham (which was its home depot between 1943 and 1948) and only the second occasion in recent times that it has been allowed out of York by its owners, the National Railway Museum.
