STOP PRESS: BIDTO DERAIL HS2 FAILS

A Planned Conservative revolt to an amendment to the HS2 Bill on April 28 failed to gain enough support to delay the HS2 project. After a six-hour debate in the House of Commons, a vote on the second reading of the Bill resulted in overwhelming support for the high-speed railway, with 452 MPs voting in favour of the project, and only 41 against. London Mayor Boris Johnson, who also still strongly advocates a physical rail link between HS1 and HS2 (see report below), dismissed the campaigners objecting to HS2.
