A survey of contributors found that opinions were sharply divided on continuing this annual article in the present format. However I suspect that our students can surf the net better than we can: we should encourage this form of communication. There is also the potential for saving a few trees and the AIP some money! Next year I will replace present full descriptions with snail-mail, web and email addresses, fax and voice telephone numbers and the briefest possible description of areas of research (just two words per area will suffice). Please send entries to me by July 1 1997. I expect a reduction in length of the description to 10% of its current length. If I do not receive your entry by then, I shall condense your current entry.
