DCNS unveiled the Anti-Air Warfare version of the Aquitaine (FREMM) class frigate, the FREMM ER (Extended Range), which will replace two cancelled Forbin class destroyers. Little information was available about the vessel, which will be the same size as existing ships including a 32-cell Sylver launcher. The most significant difference will be the incorporation of a new sensor, Thales Seafire 500, an active array radar with four fixed array panels for greater coverage horizontally and vertically, as well as improved performance against low-level and 'stealthy' missiles. There were suggestions that FREMM ER may also have a ballistic missile defence function.
