Hardide: don't neglect coatings for ROVs

The booming ROV market could provide a source of welcome revenues for paints and coatings manufacturers, subsea marine equipment rental specialist Seatron-ics and protective coatings developer Hardide Coatings have hinted. Seatronics, which specialises in supplying ROVs to oil and gas projects, recently ordered an overhaul of one of its observation-class Predator ROVs. The group contracted Hardide to apply its Hardide-T ('Tough') tungsten carbide-based coating to components within the vehicles thruster system, primarily to combat critical wear.
