More emphasis on offshore platforms

Activities at Samsung related to the offshore world are today handled by an independent business unit which covers every aspect from design through to project management. To date, the company has become particularly strong in drill-ship technology (such as those designs able to work in water depths down to 3000m), also FPSO/FSO designs, but today it is venturing into the world of semi-submersibles and tension-leg platforms (TLPs). Although work on topside modules is carried out, few projects so far have involved the fabrication and assembly of these as part of a hull contract. Nevertheless, the future aim is to secure more of this type of work, and as part of this strategy, facilities are being upgraded and extended.
