Of all the Korean shipyards, Samsung can certainly claim to be the one that has probably put the most effort into attempts at winning ferry and cruise liner contracts from Western owners. In 1994, The Naval Architect was able to inspect full cabin and public room mock-ups to European cruise-ferry standard inside the shipyard, and not long afterwards a small cruise liner, the 1989-completed Delphin Star, built by Rauma Repola (today Aker Finnyards), was re-built to give yard teams the essential skills in mastering the many intricacies of outfitting ships carrying passengers.
