Alternative propulsion proposals from Mitsubishi

For many years, the Japanese giant Mitsubishi has been a world leader in construction of LNG tankers - mainly using Moss spherical tanks, and alongside this, the company's machinery division has perfected designs for steam turbine propulsion plant for such ships. In 1993 a so-called second-generation system was introduced which proved to be a highly satisfactory standard arrangement. This design achieved simplicity as well as a high level of efficiency, using a three-stage feed water regenerating arrangement, which is said to be equivalent to a four-stage feed plant.
