The war in Afghanistan

Afghan, US and NATO-led forces conducting operations in Afghanistan are continuing to face a complex, adaptable, resilient and inventive set of adversaries. International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Afghan troops are employed as part of a comprehensive counter-insurgency (COIN) strategy, where reinforcing troops, principally from the US, have been used to contest Taliban control of key population centres, especially in southern Afghanistan.
