The RAF Museum's 'First World War in the Air' exhibitions at its north London and Cosford sites herald the start of a four-year project. The Cosford, West Midlands, exhibition tells the story of the First World War in the air using displays, aircraft and individual pilots' stories. In London a new permanent exhibition will open in December in the RAF Museum's historic former aircraft factory, described by aviation pioneer Claude Grahame-White as 'the birthplace of aerial power'. Using the museum's aircraft, documents, film and photographs, the exhibition will reveal how aviation changed the character of war. A 'drawing office', with sketching tools and technical drawings will give a 'balcony view' of the aircraft and hangar.
