Bus Eireann To Receive 90 'state-of-the-art' Buses

Bus Eireann is to take possession of 90 state-of-the-art buses by the end of the year. The buses, which are being funded under Transport21, will be used on a range of services from long distance commuter to city services and include over 30 double deck commuter coaches. According to Andrew McLindon, PR Manager, Bus Eireann: "The 32 double-deck luxury commuter coaches, which will be used in Leinster for medium to longer distance commuting routes in and out of Dublin such as the Dublin-Navan-Cavan (109) route, are high-specification vehicles that adhere to the highest environmental standards and feature semi-leather passenger seats with head rests and are wheelchair accessible." They are manufactured by VDL. They will be the first of their kind to operate in Ireland. All new Bus Eireann vehicles will have CCTV and GPS systems on board. Depending on when quality control and safety testing is completed, some of these vehicles may enter into service before Christmas with the remainder going on the road in the first quarter of 2009.
