With the recent granting of planning permission for the convertor stations in Wales and here in Ireland, two major milestones have recently been reached in plans to link the electricity networks of Ireland and north Wales.An Bord Pleanala has given permission for a converter station to be built at Woodland, Co Meath. EirGrid has also been granted planning permission by Flintshire County Council to construct an electricity converter station at Shotton near Deeside (north Wales), which will transform electricity so that it is suitable for transmission bv underaround and undersea cables.
