Peter Stevens was one of two graduates on the inaugural Royal College of Art Vehicle Design course 30 years ago. Since then, graduates from the course have won acclaim the world over. Stevens has been responsible for design classics such as the McLaren F1, the 1980s Lotus Elan, the current Espirit shape, and the Jaguar XJR-15; he was a consultant on last year's Le Mans-winning BMW LM99. He heads his own firm, Peter Stevens Design. Last month his relationship with the RCA came full circle when he was appointed visiting professor of vehicle design.
