Vauxhall car workers this week staged mass meetings in protest at General Motors' plan to close its Luton plant. The disruption was backed by thousands of workers at GM's Vauxhall plants across Europe. The TGWU is to campaign in favour of strike action in a ballot due to be completed on 12 February. If the union is successful, production at Luton could be halted by the end of the month.
