Government pledge backs cutting edge

Plans to invest £195m in UK science and engineering announced by George Osborne have been welcomed by members of the research community.At the Conservative Party conference, the chancellor said that the government would spend £SOm on a centre to commercialise the novel material graphene and £145m on developing computing and associated electronic infrastructure.
