Welcome to this special issue of The Engineer in which we celebrate the winners of The Engineer's 2020 Collaborate To Innovate Awards.Since its launch five years ago, the C2I awards has regularly uncovered a rich vein of inspiring technology innovations and provided a fascinating insight into the way in which engineers are responding to some of the big challenges our society faces.And in a year in which the COVID19 pandemic brought many sectors of the economy grinding to a halt, our 2020 shortlist - arguably one of the strongest in the competition's history - provided gratifying evidence that the UK's culture of engineering innovation and appetite for collaboration is alive and well.
