New weapons can successfully debut during armed conflict but isn't long until countermeasures are developed to negate the threat, and this was the case for the HS-293 rocket-propelled air-to-sea bomb. The guided glider -bomb was deployed by Germany from 1943 onwards and in October 1947 Eric Burgess penned an article for The Engineer that described a'revolutionary idea'that would continue to evolve to the present day.
