Bush Interior Secretaries Defend Actions On Drilling Safety Rules

Facing Democratic allegations that they wrongly relaxed offshore drilling safety regulations, the two Interior Department secretaries under the Bush administration Tuesday acknowledged pushing new incentives and royalty programs to encourage new offshore drilling during their time in office, but denied that their efforts contributed to the April 20 Deepwater Horizon blast and ensuing Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
