The first Queen's Speech of the new government disappointed environmental industries. At the state opening of parliament at the end of May, the Queen laid out the bones of a new Energy Bill, reaffirmed the UK's commitment to a global climate deal and set out plans for an EU referendum. But after a disappointing five years in coalition, including an environmentally "barren" final Budget, the Conservative government's first year does not look like it will live up to industry hopes of greater ambitions.
