The government's third series of proposals to meet legal standards for nitrogen dioxide (NO_2) pollution have been met with disdain by bodies representing environmental professionals and stakeholder groups. The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) did not pull its punches on DEFRA's "wholly inadequate... hasty, ill-prepared and piecemeal" plan, consultation on which closed on is June (endsreport.com/56226). The consultation began in May, following successive legal interventions from legal pressure group ClientEarth, the first of which dates back to 2011 (endsreport.com/54616 and 30469).
