Founded in 1847 by Danish entrepreneur JC Jacobsen, Carlsberg is now the world's fourth-biggest brewer, competing with the likes of Anheuser-Busch InBev, SABMillerand Heineken. Jacobsen built the first Carlsberg brewery on a hill in the outskirts of Copenhagen and named his newly-invented brew after his five year-old son Carl and 'Berg', the Danish word for mountain.
