Fish canning backed in Sri Lanka

The first of a number of semi-government owned fish canneries has been opened in Sri Lanka. The US$6.6 million cannery at Galle is a joint venture with Ceylon Fisheries Corporation and Cook Lanka Food Pvt Ltd. It is expected to initially produce 10,000 cans offish per day, marketed under the Cey Fish brand. In the second stage of production, capacity will be doubled to 20,000 cans a day.
