RIBA 'should give accreditation to conservation architects'

Conservation architects are gearing up for a big push to persuade the RIBA to introduce a system of accreditation, as they fear that otherwise they will lose out to surveyors when seeking work on listed buildings. Speaking at the RIBA's second national conservation conference, 'The Health of our Heritage', last Friday, conference organiser David Cowan said that when RIBA Council earlier this year turned down a proposal to introduce an accreditation system, the RIBA Conservation Group received a letter within a week offering its members the opportunity to join the RICS accreditation scheme. 'They were, I hope, joking,' he said.
